Michael Barra, MD

Michael Barra, MD

Dr. Barra spent most of his childhood in Lake Oswego, OR. After graduating from Washington State University with a BS in Animal Science, he went on to medical school at Saint Louis University on a military scholarship. He stayed four more years in St. Louis to complete his residency in Emergency Medicine at Washington University. Following residency he served four years on active duty in the US Navy. After separating from the Navy he spent nearly two years at John Peter Smith Hospital and Trauma Center in Ft. Worth Texas as both Assistant Medical Director of the ED and Medical Director of the Urgent Care. He returned to Oregon to pursue his passion for the outdoors including, hiking, mountain biking, photography, and spending time with his wife and two boys.


Brian Clothier, MD, MS

Brian Clothier, MD

Dr. Clothier completed medical school at the University of Nevada School of Medicine in Reno, Nevada. He went on to complete a combined residency in Emergency Medicine and Pediatrics at the University of Maryland Medical Center in Baltimore, Maryland. He then completed a fellowship in EMS and Wilderness Medicine at the University of Utah Medical Center in Salt Lake City, Utah. His interests include anything outdoors as it applies to medicine or recreation and spending time with his family.


Kyran Colbry, MD

Kyran Colbry, MD

Dr. Colbry grew up in Kalispell, Montana and moved to Portland, Oregon in high school. He majored in history at Texas A&M University, went to medical school at Oregon Health and Science University and completed his residency at University of Connecticut. Dr. Colbry joined our staff in 2005.


Amy Dourgarian, MD

Dr. Dourgarian and her husband both grew up in Salem, Oregon and attended Douglas McKay High school. Dr. Dourgarian received her Major in Biology at Clark University in Worcester, MA. She completed her residency in Emergency Medicine at Oregon Health & Science University where she also graduated from medical school. Dr. Dourgarian joined our staff July 1, 2007.


Timothy Dueñas, MD

Dr. Dueñas is a graduate from University of Minnesota Medical School in Minneapolis, Minnesota. He attended his residency at University of Iowa Hospitals and Clinics in Iowa City, Iowa and graduated in 2010. He is married and has two children. Dr. Dueñas is proficient in Spanish and Chamorro. He enjoys traveling, reading, snowboarding, basketball, scuba diving, and playing the guitar and ukulele.


Timothy Edelblute, MD

Timothy Edelblute, MD

Dr. Edelblute went to high school in Grants Pass‚ Oregon and received his Bachelor of Arts at the University of Oregon. He worked in hospitals in Southern California and Chicago after college where he was introduced to Emergency Medicine. He completed medical school at Oregon Health and Sciences University and his residency in Emergency Medicine at Wright State University in Dayton, Ohio. He lives in Salem with his wife and four children. He enjoys traveling to developing countries on medical assistance teams. Dr. Edelblute joined our staff in June, 1999.


Peter Hakim, DO

Peter Hakim, DO

Dr. Hakim grew up outside of Detroit, MI and attended college at the University of Michigan. He graduated from Touro College of Osteopathic Medicine, New York before moving to New England to complete his residency at Baystate Medical Center, Tufts University, in Springfield, Massachusetts. Dr. Hakim enjoys running marathons, hiking, and spending time with his wife and dog.

Dr. Kyle Hoesterey grew up in the Pacific Northwest and attended Westmont College. He then graduated from Tufts University School of Medicine and completed residency at Baystate Medical Center, Tufts University, in Springfield, Massachusetts. He enjoys traveling, the outdoors and spending time with family and friends.


Jared Houck MD

Jared Houck, MD

Born and raised in Salem, Jared returns to Oregon by way of Cleveland, OH. He attended medical school at University of Nebraska Medical Center and completed his residency in Emergency Medicine at Case Western/Cleveland Clinic Foundation. When not at work, he can be found enjoying the various hiking trails and golf courses the Northwest has to offer.


Amanda Johnston, DO

Amanda Johnston, DO

Dr. Johnston grew up in the Mid-Willamette Valley, and graduated from Oregon State University. She attended medical school at Des Moines University College of Osteopathic Medicine in Des Moines, Iowa before moving to Hershey, Pennsylvania where she completed her Emergency Medicine Residency. She is thrilled to be back home among the trees, mountains and wonderful people of Oregon. She enjoys cooking, gardening and traveling with her husband and two sons.

Mandy Karlen grew up in Keizer and graduated from McNary High School. She started her journey in medical education in the beautiful state of Hawaii where she met a fellow medical student that then became her amazing husband. After medical school they moved to Minnesota where they braved the cold for residency. Mandy always wanted to come back to the Northwest and is excited to be coming back home for work. When not in the hospital she can be found playing soccer, hanging out with her family, drinking a microbrew in the nearest brewery, or hiking with her dog.


Robert B. Kelly, MD

Rob Kelly, MD

Dr. Kelly grew up in Salem, Oregon. He graduated with a BA in Biology from Pacific Lutheran University in Tacoma, Washington and earned his Doctor of Medicine degree at Oregon Health and Science University in Portland, Oregon. He completed Emergency Medicine specialty training in 1997 at Orlando Regional Medical Center in Orlando, Florida. Rob moved back to Salem and has practiced full time with Salem Emergency Physicians Service since 1997. He enjoys traveling with his children Bryan and Brenna and wife Amy. Favorite activities include skiing, crabbing, boating, hiking and camping.


Ryan Kirkpatrick, MD

Dr. Kirkpatrick grew up in Albany, Oregon and after graduating from West Albany High School, went to Linfield College and majored in chemistry. He went to Oregon Health and Science University for medical school and University of Arizona for his residency in Emergency Medicine before moving back to Oregon. Dr. Kirkpatrick joined our staff in 2005.


Heajeoung (Beth) Koh, MD

Heajeoung (Beth) Koh, MD

Dr. Koh is from Hunstville, Alabama. She went to medical school in Texas A&M University and completed residency in Cleveland, Ohio. She worked as an emergency medicine physician for a year in New Zealand and comes most recently from New Orleans. Dr. Koh enjoys hiking, traveling, and Alabama football. Roll Tide.


Lazeni Koulibali, DO

Lazeni Koulibali, DO

Dr. Koulibali grew up in Ivory Coast, West Africa. He received his bachelor degree in biology at Lehman College in New York, NY and attended medical school at Des Moines University, College of Osteopathic Medicine in Iowa. He completed his family practice residency at Wilson Memorial Hospital in Binghamton, NY and his Emergency Medicine residency at the University at Buffalo, NY. His interests include martial arts, soccer, traveling, music, running and skiing. Dr. Koulibali joined our staff in August 2006.


Katherine Landen, MD

Dr. Landen completed medical school at Case Western Reserve University School of Medicine in Cleveland, Ohio. She went on to complete her residency in Emergency Medicine at Metro Health Medical Center in Cleveland, Ohio. She enjoys skiing, boating, and many other outdoor activities.


Makin Corby, MD

Corby Makin, DO

Dr. Makin grew up on a cattle ranch in Joseph Oregon. He was fortunate to stay in Oregon for college at Pacific University and medical school at Western University of Health Sciences in Lebanon. After finishing residency at UC Davis Medical Center in Sacramento California he is excited to return to the Northwest. Outside of medicine he enjoys snowboarding, rock climbing, and intramural sports.


Nikolaus Matsler, MD

Nikolaus Matsler, MD

Dr. Matsler was born and raised in Corvallis, Oregon. Originally starting out as an English major in college, he quickly found a passion for pre-hospital medicine while volunteering with the Corvallis Fire Department. After becoming a paramedic, he went back to school and was fortunate enough to attend OHSU for his MD. Following this, he went to Denver for his residency in emergency medicine and stayed to complete toxicology fellowship at Rocky Mountain Poison and Drug Safety. When not in the emergency department, he pursues research in machine learning and loves to spend time on the beautiful Oregon coast.


Rumm Morag, MD

Dr. Morag completed medical school at Sackler School of Medicine/Tel Aviv University in Tel Aviv, Israel in 1999. He went on to complete his residency in Emergency Medicine at The Brooklyn Hospital Center in Brooklyn, New York in 2003. Dr. Morag and his family relocated from Atlanta Georgia where he was the Assistant Professor in the Department of Emergency Medicine at Emory University. His interests include medical ethics and evaluation and risk stratification of syncope.


Linda Morrison, MD

Dr. Morrison grew up on a fruit and vegetable farm in rural Michigan. She completed her undergraduate studies at Carleton College in Minnesota and later graduated from University of Minnesota Medical School in Minneapolis, Minnesota. Dr. Morrison attended her residency in Emergency Medicine at University of Pittsburgh Affiliated Residency in Emergency Medicine in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania and graduated in 2010. She enjoys running, reading, hiking, and cooking.

Dr. Oh grew up in California, and attended school at UCSD. He went on to medical school at St. George’s University, and then residency in NYC. In his spare time he loves running, hiking, skateboarding, snowboarding, and traveling.


Brian Orth, DO

Brian Orth, DO

Dr. Orth grew up in Estacada, Oregon and attended college at Oregon State University where he majored in Biology. He attended medical school at Arizona College of Osteopathic Medicine in Glendale, Arizona and completed his residency at St. Luke’s University Hospital in Bethlehem, Pennsylvania in 2013. He enjoys spending time with his wife and kids, golfing, and fishing.


Min Chai (Ken) Pak, MD

Ken Pak, M.D. completed medical school at Loma Linda University in Loma Linda, California and went on to complete his residency in Emergency Medicine at Martin Luther King Hospital in Los Angeles, California in 1997. Dr. Pak and his family relocated from Covina, California where he had been practicing at Queen of the Valley Hospital. During his free time he enjoys cycling, surfing, hockey, and triathlons.


Shane Peterson, MD

Shane Peterson, MD

Dr. Peterson grew up in Eugene, OR and attended the University of Oregon graduating with a degree in Computer and Information Science. He subsequently worked as a software engineer in Seattle, WA for several years before searching for more from his existence. A lifelong traveler, he spent a year exploring the world before settling in Boston, MA where he began to pursue a career in medicine. He designed electronic medical record systems during the day and took classes at night. He was accepted to and graduated from the University of Pittsburgh School of Medicine before moving to New York where he completed his residency at New York Presbyterian Hospital of Cornell and Columbia. Eager to explore humanism in emergency medicine, he further specialized by completing a fellowship in Hospice and Palliative Medicine at Columbia. Dr. Peterson enjoys the outdoors-whether hiking, rafting, or just exploring with his amazing wife.


Trevor Phillips, MD

Trevor Phillips, MD

Dr. Phillips attended Linfield College in McMinnville, Oregon where he majored in Biology and graduated Magna Cum Laude. He completed medical school at Yale University School of Medicine in New Haven, Connecticut in 2005. He went on to complete his internship and residency in Emergency Medicine at The University of North Carolina Hospital in Chapel Hill, North Carolina.


Matthew Pitzer, MD

Matthew Pitzer, DO

Dr. Matthew Pitzer is originally from the Pacific Northwest receiving his undergraduate, a B.S. in Human Physiology, from the University of Oregon. He attended medical school in Pennsylvania at Lake Erie College of Osteopathic Medicine and following with his residency at Duke-Life Conemaugh Memorial Medical Center located also in Pennsylvania. From there, Matthew moved to Columbus, Ohio where he has worked as an attending physician in a busy level 1 trauma center since July 2018. He and his wife who just finished her residency in Pediatrics are excited to be coming home to Oregon. Matthew is an outdoor enthusiast who enjoys scuba diving, rock climbing, and snowboarding.


Spencer Reid, MD

Spencer Reid, MD

Dr. Spencer Reid was born and raised in Albany, Oregon. He completed his undergraduate degree at University of California, Davis majoring in Neurobiology, Physiology and Behavior, and then attended medical school at Rush Medical College in Chicago, Illinois where he met his super charming wife. He completed emergency medicine residency at Resurrection Medical Center - also in Chicago. He is juiced to be moving back to the Willamette Valley where he can get back to camping, mountain climbing, and just general outdoorsiness. He's into competitive trivia, basketball, all creatures great and small, adventurous travel, and all of the movies.


Ryan Rose, MD

Dr. Rose is an osteopathic emergency medicine physician, who completed his residency at Baystate Medical center. While growing up in Tennessee, Ryan found an avid passion for the outdoors and has incorporated that passion into his practice by taking Advanced Wilderness Life Support courses. He continues to teach wilderness medicine classes and skills. Dr. Rose also started a MedWAR race at his medical school which is still held every November. After residency, Ryan practiced in a busy trauma center just outside of Charlotte, NC. When not working, Dr. Rose and his lovely wife can be found mountain biking, hiking, and hanging out with their awesome dogs.


Jillian Schmunk, MD

Dr. Schmunk was born in Portland and raised in Beaverton, Oregon. She graduated from La Sierra University in Riverside, California and attended Loma Linda University for medical school, in Loma Linda, California. She completed her residency in Emergency Medicine at Baystate Medical Center, Tufts University, in Springfield, Massachusetts. Dr. Schmunk enjoys traveling, reading a good novel, and exploring the outdoors with her husband and two dogs.


Teagan Settelmeyer, MD

Teagan Settelmeyer, MD

Dr. Teagan Settelmeyer is a native Oregonian and grew up in Cottage Grove, OR. Having completed residency in emergency medicine at Advocate Christ Hospital located just south of Chicago, IL; he is excited to be back in the PNW! In his free time, Teagan enjoys time spent with family, being outside running, biking, playing soccer, or camping.


Stefani Sorensen, DO.

Dr. Stefani Sorensen is an emergency medicine physician who was born and raised in Portland, Oregon. She played volleyball while earning her undergraduate degree in Biochemistry at Eastern Oregon University. She attended medical school at Pacific Northwest University of Health Sciences College of Osteopathic Medicine, and completed residency at Mount Sinai Medical Center in Miami Beach, Florida. During residency, she was elected chief resident and was recognized as Resident of the Year. Outside of the hospital, she enjoys trying new restaurants, cooking and baking, riding her Peloton, hiking, and traveling.

Dr. Karen Spangle grew up in Wyoming then attended college and medical school at Tulane University on a military scholarship. She attended Emergency Medicine residency at University of Chicago. Dr. Spangle spent 8 years on active duty in the Army stationed at Fort Hood Texas. She comes to Salem Health after working at Loyola University Medical Center in Chicago. She and her husband Cole enjoy traveling, hiking, golf and all things outdoors.


Kirsten Steketee, MD

Kirsten Steketee, MD

Dr. Steketee grew up in Salem and went to Sprague High School. She received her degree in biology at Pomona College in Claremont, California, went to medical school at Oregon Health and Science University and completed her residency in Emergency Medicine at Michigan State University. Dr. Steketee joined our staff in 1994.


Darek Stewart, MD

Derek Stewart, MD

Derek Stewart, MD is an emergency physician from Phoenix, Arizona. He attended medical school at the University of Arizona and completed his emergency medicine residency training at Maricopa Medical Center in Phoenix, AZ. He practiced emergency medicine at Honor Health in Phoenix for the past five years where he served as sepsis committee chairmen before moving back to his wife's home town Salem, OR. He joins the SEPS team in June and is looking forward to serving the Salem community. His hobbies include gardening, wine tasting, and spending time with his family.


Henry Truong, MD

Dr. Truong is a graduate of Oregon Health & Science University in Portland, Oregon. During his time there he fell in love with the Northwest and made it a natural choice to return after his Emergency Medicine residency in Brooklyn, New York. When not working, he enjoys exploring the surrounding wine country and improving his handicap on the golf course. During the off season, Dr. Truong will happily hop on a plane in search of his next exotic culinary adventure.


Joshua Walterscheid, MD

Joshua Walterscheid, MD

Dr. Walterscheid is a graduate from the University of Oregon. He attended his residency in Emergency Medicine at Baystate Medical Center, Tufts University, in Springfield, Massachusetts and graduated in 2010. Dr. Walterscheid is married with two children. He is fluent in Spanish and enjoys reading, traveling, and spending time with his family. He is also an avid runner and he recently competed in an Ironman.


Deirdre Witte, MD

Deirdre Witte was born in Forest Grove, Oregon but spent her younger years as a native of Portland. Although she's a stalwart fan of her state, she spent time both in Washington and  Ohio for residency. She is excited to return to her home-state for work.  When not in the hospital, you may find her next to the closest dog, hiking a hill, skiing back down that hill, or jumping waves in the Pacific Ocean (Oregon style in leggings and a hoody).

Ryan Esparza, PA-C

Ryan Esparza, PA-C

Ryan grew up in Southern California and attended Azusa Pacific University where he met his now wife and completed his bachelor's in Applied Health. After gaining experience as an EMT in a pediatric emergency department, he moved to North Carolina for PA school. Three years, one wedding, and two dogs later he has returned to the west coast to pursue a new career, and new adventures in the PNW. He enjoys frequent visits to the dog park, fishing, sporting clays, good music, and football (soccer).


Ayslinn Grantham-Eads, FNP

Ayslinn Grantham-Eads, FNP

Ayslinn is a recent transplant to Salem, OR. Native to Southern California's sunny beaches, she nevertheless loves rain and cloudy weather- a perfect fit for the PNW. She started in the ICU as an RN and moved on to complete her FNP through Indiana State University. As a nurse practitioner, she has worked in nephrology and emergency services. When not working, she loves hiking, backpacking, and spending time with her family, kids, and dogs."


Tim Hall, PA-C

Tim Hall, PA-C

Tim received his physician assistant training at Charles Drew University and Martin Luther King Jr. hospital in south central Los Angeles. He moved to southern Oregon in 2000. He worked in physical medicine and rehabilitation for several years. In addition to full-time practice, he took on roles in orthopedic and neurosurgery. He then transitioned to full-time work with a busy neurosurgical practice at a level II trauma center. He has been an avid outdoorsman having hiked, climbed and fished throughout the Sierras and elsewhere.


Irum Jaffri, PA-C

Irum Jaffri, PA-C

Irum was born and raised in Buffalo, NY. She is a fan of the Buffalo Bills and chicken wings. She graduated from the University at Buffalo with her bachelor’s and master’s in Biological Sciences. Irum then uprooted her life and moved to Portland after being accepted into the Physician Assistant program at Oregon Health and Science University. She has now been indoctrinated into all things Pacific Northwest including rock climbing, skiing and biking.


Alexander Nelson PAC

Alexander Nelson, PA-C

Alex was born and raised in Salem, Oregon. After graduating from Oregon State University with a Bachelor’s Degree in Exercise Science, he spent a year gaining experience as a Scribe in Salem Health’s ED. He then moved to Washington, DC with his wife to attend George Washington University where he graduated with the Academic Excellence Award. He spent the last year practicing medicine in McKenzie-Willamette’s ED. Alex loves serving the community that he grew up in. During his free time, he loves playing sports, enjoying the outdoors and spending time with his wife and baby girl.


Nathan Quinley, PA-C

Nathan Quinley, PA-C

Nathan was born in Jamaica and raised in the Philippines. He attended University in Australia and the USA. During his time at University, he worked as an Emergency Medical Technician (EMT). After graduating from the University of South Alabama with a Masters degree in Health Science, he worked at Duke University Hospital in Durham, North Carolina gaining experience in Craniomaxillofacial trauma. During his free time, Nathan enjoys hiking, surfing, kiteboarding, and spending time with his family.

Judy Carroll

Judy Carroll, MBA, FACMPE - Chief Operations Officer

Judy is a native Oregonian. She graduated from Southern Oregon State College in 1995 and after building her career in medical management, she obtained her Certified Medical Practice Executive (CMPE) through the American College of Medical Practice Executives in 2011. She is also a graduate of OHSU, where she earned her healthcare focused MBA. In her spare time, she enjoys traveling as much as possible and spending time with family and friends.


Whittney Webb

Whittney Webb - Executive Assistant

Whittney Webb is a California transplant who has worked in office operations for over 10 years. She moved to beautiful Oregon with her husband and young daughter. When she is not working, Whittney enjoys spending her free time doing arts such as painting and cross-stitch, along with jewelry making and metalsmithing.
